NoirScience™ Science is not the belief that plants are better because they are natural.

It is not the rejection of synthetic chemistry.

And it is not the assumption that centuries of traditional use automatically establish the safety or efficacy of a modern cosmetic formulation.

NoirScience™ Science is our method for bringing cultural botanical knowledge into disciplined cosmetic formulation without stripping either the culture or the science from the plant.

Tradition tells us where to look. Science helps us determine what we can claim. Skin behavior tells us what happened.

Cerasee has a long history of traditional use throughout Caribbean communities, including Haitian households — prepared as teas, washes, and remedies passed through generations.

Beautélanin® separates traditional use from cosmetic evidence. Traditional preparations and cultural understandings deserve documentation in their own right. Topical cosmetic claims, however, must be supported according to the particular extract and formulation we use.

Moringa has a long history of nutritional, medicinal, and cosmetic use across multiple regions and cultures. Its constituents have attracted substantial scientific interest.

The chemical composition of moringa seed oil is different from moringa leaf extract. We should never treat "moringa" as one standardized material. The formulation question must always be: which one — and why?

Soursop belongs deeply within Caribbean food and traditional plant knowledge. Its phytochemicals have attracted scientific research interest — but the path from food or folk medicine to a substantiated cosmetic claim is not automatic.

Beautélanin® is especially careful here. Soursop contains phytochemicals of research interest, but we evaluate the safety, composition and topical evidence of the specific material before assigning it a cosmetic function.

Bay rum has a long and meaningful history across Caribbean communities — including traditional grooming, wellness, and spiritual use. Its aromatic character is deeply culturally embedded.

Traditional bay-rum preparations and Pimenta racemosa-derived aromatic materials require thoughtful formulation because aromatic constituents can themselves be irritating or sensitizing for some skin.

Stop Asking Whether an Oil
Is Comedogenic

A number from 0–5 cannot tell us how a finished formulation will behave on the skin in front of us.

Two clients may have comparable Melanin Density but very different skin histories. The same oil does not automatically deserve the same recommendation simply because both clients are Black.

MRBUP® was created to get you away from exactly that kind of predetermined categorization. Melanin density alone does not determine whether an oil will produce follicular congestion.

M — Melanin Is melanin density actually relevant here, or are we invoking it unnecessarily?
R — Reactivity Has the client previously developed itching, papules, folliculitis, or irritation with richer lipid systems?
B — Barrier Does the skin actually need additional lipids? What are we trying to accomplish?
U — UV Legacy Does inflammation become visible later? Does the client show delayed responses following environmental stress?
P — Pigment Memory If follicular inflammation occurs, what does this person's skin historically do afterward? A small lesion may leave visible pigment for months.
