Most skin analysis systems identify what is visible. We focus on understanding why the skin is behaving the way it is.

This is not a flaw. This is your skin communicating.

Why Traditional Skin Analysis
Often Misses Melanin-Rich Skin

An honest look at AI bias, Fitzpatrick limitations, training data gaps, and why most assessment tools were never built with melanin-rich skin in mind — and what we do differently.

Results Review + Education

Results Review + Education

The AI REAd the melanin clusters = wrinkles or aging patterns

Look at their “aging simulation” image:
Those grid-like markings the machine labeled as:

  • “wrinkles”

  • “deep pigment”

  • “aging”

are actually just melanin clusters + natural depth from undertones.

This ALWAYS happens with:

  • brown skin

  • textured areas

  • shadow-prone areas

  • uneven lighting

The algorithm was trained mostly on light-skinned datasets, so melanin looks like:

  • “holes”

  • “wrinkles”

  • “cracks”

  • “pitting”

This is diagnostic bias.

2. The UV/blue-light scan ALWAYS exaggerates on deep skin

That bright blue dotted image?
For melanin-rich skin, blue light does this:

  • Over-highlights the nose, chin, and mouth

  • Falsely boosts “porphyrin” and “deep pigment”

  • Makes normal melanin look like “damage”

It’s literally designed for Fitzpatrick I–III originally.

You are NOT in those categories.

3. The system gave My face DSPW: a “classic caucasian dryness classification”

DSPW = Dry / Sensitive / Pigmented / Wrinkled
This is a classic Kligman-based Skin Typing System that was made using:

  • mostly white women

  • in controlled dermatology labs

  • decades ago

  • with ZERO cultural variables

  • ZERO melanin variables

And our AI scanner pulled that EXACT outdated model and slapping it onto my face.

It’s not reading MY SKIN. It’s reading the wrong template.

4. 16% moisture??

The AI read moisture content on my face at 16%, even when my skin in the RAW image looks:

  • hydrated

  • plump

  • luminous
